Neverland
is a flat, suspended “door” drawing composed of fragments from the iconic architecture and textures of Sydney and Jinan—two cities that have shaped my identity. Suspended in midair by two iron chains, the door sways gently in response to the breeze created by passing audiences and the surrounding gallery space. Hollowed-out sections of the sheet invite viewers to walk around, stand behind it, and gaze through the empty spaces, offering new perspectives and personal reflections.

This work explores the concept of home and belonging. The term Neverland, originating from Peter Pan, evokes an imaginary place of endless adventures. However, in the face of modern realities—urbanization, globalization, and displacement—the search for a place to truly call home becomes a profound and tangible challenge. Having been born in Jinan, China, and having pursued my college education in Sydney, Australia, I find myself constantly balancing emotions and memories across these two landscapes. Through fragmented pieces of the door, I attempt to reconcile and reflect on my experiences, using art as a means of navigation.
